The Western Pacific Region has some of the highest alcohol consumption rates among adults in the world: the total alcohol per-capita consumption in the Region is almost 10% higher than the global average. Alcohol is a causal factor in over 200 health conditions, including mental and behavioural illnesses and noncommunicable diseases.
The 2018 Alcohol Consumption Country Profiles present key data on the production of alcohol, consumption of alcohol, and health consequences associated with alcohol for each Member State in the region and assess the presence of national policies and strategies to reduce harmful use of alcohol. As part of the Global status report on alcohol and health in 2018, these profiles allow Member States to track their progress against the WHO Global Strategy to Reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol, published in 2010.
