Leprosy elimination was achieved at the regional level in the Western Pacific Region in the late 1980s. During the previous decades, the prevalence and new case detection rates declined at the regional level. However, several countries and areas continue to report high rates and numbers of new cases every year including cases in children. In 2019, a total of 4004 cases were newly reported in the Region.
Leprosy surveillance data are reported annually from countries to the WHO. Using the accumulated surveillance data, the WHO Regional Office has developed a web-based leprosy country profile that enables tabulation and visualization of key monitoring indicators. Figures and data generated by the tool can be downloaded.
