Hepatitis B and C prevalence

Of the 354 million people living with hepatitis B or hepatitis C virus globally, 35% live in the WHO Western Pacific Region. The Region also accounts for 49% of the world’s 111 million liver-related deaths associated with HBV and HCV. Most countries in the region have developed national action plans. The Western Pacific Region has progress in expanding access to services for people with hepatitis B and C virus infection, with increasing more countries ensuring domestic financing for viral hepatitis, through government financing of hepatitis commodities and national health insurance coverage for hepatitis services. The responses to viral hepatitis, along with HIV and STIs, have opportunities in national financing for universal health coverage.
